The current economic climate creates a challenging ordeal for anyone struggling to make ends meet. With over one million North Carolina residents living in poverty and many statewide food banks nearly empty, there has never been a more critical time to help people and families in need. The New Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ) is answering the call with the Dare To Care: Feed Those In Need Food Drive, taking place from November 5 through November 16.
“Food donation boxes will be located at host law firms in cities across the state,” states Michelle LaPorte, Director of Sections & Divisions for NCAJ. “Simply bring any non-perishable food item(s) to a drop-off location. Each city will have a NCAJ Food Drive Coordinator who will make certain that your food donations are delivered to the respective food bank.”
Over 40 firms throughout the state of North Carolina have signed on to be a host site for food donations. Once collected, items will be delivered to one of nine food banks in the state. Western North Carolina will be served by MANNA Food Bank, a private, not-for-profit service organization, founded in 1982, that links the food industry with 231 partner agencies in 16 counties of WNC.

Food bank partners for this year include: MANNA Food Bank (Asheville), Food Bank of Eastern & Central North Carolina (Durham, New Bern, Raleigh, Rocky Mount, Wilmington), Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina (Charlotte, Concord), Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina (Greensboro, Winston-Salem), Community Soup Kitchen (Goldsboro), The Blue Ridge Opportunity Commission (Wilkesboro), Thermal Belt Outreach (Columbus), Eagles Wings (Washington) and Robeson County Church and Community Center (Lumberton).
